kurdistan history goes back thousands of years ago. The old kurdistan city returns to median era. After that it was ruled by different dynasties like Achaemenids, sassanids, partians, seleucids and even safavid dynasties. in safavid era, Kurdistan had a great role resisting against ottomans and it acts as a barrier against enemies confronting western borders of Iran.

Kurdistan is a very historical and cultural site. In kurdistan region you can find many historical architectures like castles, citadels, mosques and even Zoroastrian temples . sanandaj city ,capital of Kurdistan,  is the cradle of culture and history . 
Most of kurdistan population are Muslim and their sect is Sunni islam. In Islam we have two prominent sects, one is shia and the other is sunni, Sunni islam is more common in kurdistan region but it does not mean there is not any shia Muslim in Kurdistan. In fact, there are many shia Muslims living with other sunni people in peace and there are many couples who are living together in a very peaceful life.
Kurdistan has a very scenic view in nature. The mountains are covered by snow in winter and by spring the snow in peaks start to melt and supply springs and seasonal rivers. This water irrigates lower land and because of this huge amount of water there are many gardens and farming lands which produce a big share in garden products and because of this people around Kurdistan are rich enough to export lots of goods to neighboring provinces and other countries around Persian Gulf.
Near Sanandaj city there is a big lake named “zarivar”, it is beautiful and has a significant role in Kurdistan people's life. It has an important role in irrigating lower lands and moderates the weather in the hot and dry season in summer.
If you visit Kurdistan province you will understand how important the role of Kurdistan people is near the border of Iran and Iraq. During the war between Iraq and Iran, people of Kurdistan helped the government to defend against the enemy and after the war, Kurdistan people helped the country to reconstruct remaining of war destructions.
Now after years Kurdistan people have a good role in the tourism industry and attract many people from local areas and out of borders and bring revenue to the country.

Kurdistan people's outfit is different from other parts of the country and kurdistan women wear colorful and shiny robes and a colorful scarf to cover their hair. The men in Kurdistan wear baggy trousers and they wear a shirt and a belt around their waist which is a shawl which covers and protects their stomach against cold weather of Kurdistan mountains.
Kurdistan culture is different from other parts of the country. People of Kurdistan were solid before world war and after world war it got separated between Iran, Iraq and Turkey and Syria. The Kurds of Iran speak Farsi,the official language, and their own mother language Kurdish language. Iraqi kurds speak Arabic and their mother language ,Kurdish and Kurds of Turkey, speak Turkish and Kurdish that is their mother language.
Women of Kurdistan are brave and in old times they were the best horse riders in peace and in wars. 
People of Kurdistan love food and because of this you can find many delicious foods like Kebabs, stews, breads, beverages and sweets in markets . You should taste Kurdish kebabs and stews to understand how delicious  Kurdish cuisine Is and you should drink traditional beverages in hot summers to understand how healthy and tasty  a cup of “Dough” is in summers of Kurdistan.
Kurdistan people love dancing and singing, men and women dance hand in hand which symbolizes the unity between people and sing in a loud voice which symbolizes the power in wars. Their music is different and they use some instruments like tambur and Daf and kamanche in a very rhythmic way . their music is powerful and resembles war music in loudness and rhythm.People of Kurdistan also love poetry and literature and they thrive to save their mother language, Kurdish.
The Pir Shalyar ceremony, also spelled Pir Shaliyar, is a traditional Kurdish festival celebrated in the Kurdistan province of Iran. It's a vibrant celebration held annually on the 40th day of winter (usually falls in early February) and continues for three consecutive weeks. The ceremony commemorates the legendary marriage of Pir Shalyar, a wise man and healer, to Shah Bahar Khatoon, a princess from Bukhara.Legend says Pir Shalyar cured the princess of deafness and muteness, and they fell in love. The ceremony marks their symbolic wedding. It's also considered one of the oldest Kurdish literary texts, predating the Islamization of the region.

As mentioned above, Kurdistan is located in the mountains. Kurdistan weather in winter is frizzing. In winter most of the roads are covered by snow and icy roads are very regular to see. If you like to visit Kurdistan it is better to travel in spring and summer. In spring the weather is more pleasant and all the greens are blooming. Trees are green and all the landscape changes are amazing . But if you are an adventurer you can add little spice to your program and visit icy roads in winter.
