The Galesh of Ziarat call themselves Mazandarani, but they do not recognize their language as Galesh, Mazandarani, or even Gorgani. They call their language Rustic.

Demographics of Ziarat Village

This village is located in the southern Astarabad rural district and, according to the 2006 census, a population of over 2,280 people lived in it. This village is inhabited by Galesh people, but the Galesh people in this area are abandoning their traditional herding lifestyle and are engaged in agriculture and construction. 

The village's residents, predominantly of Turkmen descent, have preserved their ancestral customs and traditions. One of the interesting points of this village is the high life expectancy of its people, which is also due to its natural life and the use of forest foods. Galesh are actually shepherds who speak the Tabari language and raise livestock. In the old Tabari language, the word Galesh means shepherd.
