Naharkhoran
Nahar khoran Park is one of the most beautiful and well-known natural attractions of Golestan Province and the city of Gorgan, located 4 kilometers south of Gorgan. This pristine and lush forest, with a history as old as time, welcomes many tourists from all over the country every year. This natural wonderland has been captivating visitors for centuries with its diverse flora and fauna.
The name Naharkhoran dates back to the distant past. The name "Naharkhoran" which translates to "lunch-eating place," was a nod to its historical significance as a resting spot for pilgrims traveling to Mecca in Arabia. For further explanation, it should be said since the people of Gorgan would come to this area on their way back from pilgrimages or long journeys to rest and eat their lunch, this area should be renamed from south of Gorgan to Nahar Khoran. Today, although the name of this area has been preserved, it has become a tourist area that attracts millions of tourists annually. On special days and in suitable weather, more than 30,000 tourists sometimes gather at this point and have fun.
Naharkhoran Forest is part of the Hyrcanian forests, which are over 40 million years old. These forests, which are among the oldest in the world, were formed in the Jurassic era and have continued to exist ever since. The diverse and unique vegetation of this forest has made it a unique natural museum.
This area is a remnant of the last glacial Hyrcanian forests, which are covered with plant species such as oak, Parrotia persica, Carpinus betulus, maple, Tilia, wild cherry, Zelkova carpinifolia, Date-plum (Kheradmandi), raspberry, Ruscus aculeatus, Mespilus germanica , and Crataegus. All of these plants are native to the area. However, there are also trees and plants that, although not native, have given a special beauty to Nahar Khoran Park. Species such as pine, cypress, magnolia, boxwood, Ligustrum vulgare, Salix babylonica, and papital are among them.
Although humans have caused an imbalance in the area, there are still wild boar, jackal, bat, mouse, weasel, squirrel, eagle, hawk, falcon, woodpecker, owl, wagtail, hawk, Accentor, finch, Great tit sparrow, crow, starling, and lizard in this area. Currently, the road leading to Nahr Khoran is considered the longest street in the city, and at the end, there are many entertainment complexes, restaurants, hotels, and sports centers that are filled with tourists on holidays and in good weather.
