Tang-e chowgan in Fars : a journey into the depth of Iran’s history and nature

History of Tang-e Chowgan

Tang-e chowgan or Chowgan gorge is a wide valley which was the polo field of kings and royal dynasties and because of this it named as chowgan gorge or tang-e chowgan. On the walls of this valley you can find different reliefs which each one tells a story about kings and kingdoms and victories against enemies. Most of those reliefs are about Sassanid era and their victories about Roman Empire and wars between Iran and Roman Empire. There are numerous flowers and animals living in this valley and it is known as one of the cultural and scenic beauties visited by thousands of tourists from past to contemporary history of Iran. There are 6 reliefs in chowgan gorge or tange-e chowgan which are carved from Sassanid era. Some of them are in good position and some of them destroyed by vandalisms trough history.

Tang-e chowgan attactions

There are 6 reliefs on the walls of chowgan gorge and a big cave which is very important because of form and structure and a huge statue carved in the cave from solid stone but unfortunately is broken by enemies’ trough history. The name of cave is “Ghare shapoor” or shapoor cave.
How to go to tang-e chowngan. This gorge is located in bishapoor city in kazeroon near Shiraz.
