Shourabil Lake

Lake Shourabil is located within the urban area of Ardabil and is the only urban lake in Iran. As its name suggests, this lake is saline. In the not-so-distant past, people suffering from skin ailments used the mud from this lake as a facial mask for treatment. Unfortunately, due to various reasons, fresh water has been added to the lake, reducing its salinity and diminishing its therapeutic properties. Geological studies indicate that this lake is older than Lake Urmia, which adds to its unique characteristics. The lake spans approximately 180 hectares, and with the decrease in salinity due to the addition of fresh water, it has become possible to cultivate rainbow trout.
